Review of Glenwood Arts Theater

Location: Overland Park, KS

Date of Visit: September 15, 2024

Movie Seen: Between the Temples

Price: $34.38 for two people

Two tickets for a Sunday early afternoon showing was $21.38.

A regular popcorn and soda was $13.

Cleanliness: The Theater is older with a vintage style. Though it's old it is clean. The bathrooms are small but clean as well. Unfortunately, I've never seen enough people there at once for the bathroom size to be an issue.

Comfy-Ness:  The one drawback of this theater is the seats. They are old and by the end of most films, my back is hurting. I love the restored vintage style but new seats would be a welcomed upgrade.

Food Quality: Popcorn was good. Many times the popcorn is stale here, but today was fresh. They don't have the Freestyle Coca-Cola machine. Just a regular fountain. But generally, their soda has good flavor and carbonation.

With this being a smaller theater they have some unique snacks you can get like peanuts and other snacks you might find in a vending machine and not at normal theaters.

Overall 16.5/20.

This is a special theater that shows indie films, documentaries, and local films. They do show “big” releases, but they really just focus on limited release, documentaries, and foreign language films.

In 2023, they did a film even with The Culinary Center. We went to the culinary center to eat fine French cuisine and then went to Glenwood to watch the French Film The Taste of Things.

Without theaters like this many of these indie films and foreign language films wouldn’t have distribution, at least to this part of the country, and therefore wouldn’t make money. Indie cinema is already in trouble.

If you’ve never been to or heard of this theater, check it out at least once, and support your small theaters.
